Snap 'n Lock Boxes

From: Ed Bindler (ed@bluarcher.com) | Date: 2007-12-21 10:15:26 UTC-05:00
Hi, All!

Happy Holidays!

While Christmas shopping last night, I was in Bed, Bath & Beyond and came
across Snap 'n Lock boxes. They are very similar to Lock & Lock boxes.

There were 2 sizes that I bought:

2 cups for $2.99
Inside size L5" x W3" x D1.75"

4.5 cups for $4.99
Inside size L7" x W4.75 x D1.75"

The sides slope up from the bottom so that the inside Lengths & Widths at
the top are a bit larger than the sizes I listed above. There were other
sizes but I think those 2 were the best (for me anyway).

The parent company is Snapware and the website is www.snapware.com.

I think that the Lock & Lock boxes are better but these are a very good
alternative.

Has anyone else tried these boxes?

I haven't seen those yet. I did, though, buy Sterlite Ultra Seal, which
locks, but I haven't had a long term test yet. I have only used them for
temporary, very short term, plants so far.

I am more of a geocacher, so I am pretty familiar with these. I
haven't personally used them and general concensus, in my estimation,
is that they are considered not as good or reliable as the true Lock
& Lock storage. If you go to the geocaching fourms
(http://forums.groundspeak.com/gc/) and search the Geocaching Topics
forum for "snapware" there are a number of threads that you may find
helpful.

I've stumbled across a couple caches that were snapware and they did
have minor moisture problems, so I've personally avoided them.

I'm starting to think about doing some planting. I have a question--I've heard about people using magnets to attach boxes to guard rails, etc. I have not actually seen any of these myself. Where might one obtain magnets suitable for such a purpose?

Happy Holidays :-)

I have found at least 2 boxes that were attached with magnents one was in Kansas City at one of the many fountians. The other was just the stamp no box close to the arch in St. Louis.
I would look for the magnets at Hobby Lobby or Michaels.

Another option for magnets is to take apart a computer hard drive... they
have BUFF magnets!

Do you mean that just the stamp was attached somewhere with a magnet?

And another unlikely source of very strong magnets is a Sonicare
electric toothbrush. When it comes time replace the brush-head, look
for two tiny black (and very powerful) magnets in the part you're
about to discard.
